Chef Phillip Thigpen (Chef Phil) leading our culinary training program. With over 30 years of experience in the culinary industry, Chef Phil has built and led multiple successful food businesses, mastering everything from fine dining to large-scale catering.
Beyond his industry expertise, Chef Phil has spent more than a decade training and mentoring aspiring chefs, helping them develop the skills needed to thrive in professional kitchens. His passion for teaching and commitment to excellence make him an invaluable guide for students looking to turn their passion for food into a rewarding career.

Class Curriculum
Assessment
Basic skill assessment: determine what you skill level and eligiblity test for this program
Week 1 – Week 2
Understand the Kitchen: Learn the terms and phase for kitchen
Week 3 – Week 4
Preperations for Sanitation Exam: Study for the ServSafe Food Manager Exam
Week 5 – Week 10
Hands-on Training: Cooking different reciptes and dishes following instructions provide the the instructors
Week 11 – Week 12
Real-live experiences: Assign to one of our partner’s resturants for a paid internship for two weeks to understand more abou the culinary industry.
12-weeks basic culiary training plus hands-on experience
Our classes are from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m Monday-Friday. Each day begins with a short lecture provided by Chef Phil about food preparation and cooking demonstraction, hands-on kichen skills and small group projects to similate a real-time working enviorments
Chicago Food Service Sanitation Manager Certifications
At the 4th weeks of the class Ascending Pathways’s students are mandatory to pass the Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification Program adminstered by the Chicago Department of Public Health, This will kick start whoever is interested and planning the enter the culinary industry
Real on-hands experience at partners location for graduates
Once the students is graduated from our programs, we will work with our partners in our network to alocate two weeks paid training at our partner’s location. This will give our student a pathway to either employment or learn the skill is needed to be successful in the culinary industry.
